Hong Kong
| Back to Hong Kong! It was nice- my parents trusted me to go out on my own and explore the city. I suppose they figured I knew the city better than they did since I was there for eleven weeks a few years ago. Nonetheless, I didn't spend that much time alone. I saw the Coastal Defense Museum with my Dad, that was a good trip, a good way to spend an afternoon. We went to Macau to try and find Dad's old street. We found the street, but the two-story apartment complex was leveled back in the 80's apparently to make way for 4-story apartments. Saw the old church facade and the fort. We also played a few rounds of roulette at the Sands Casino, the newest one. Dad hit numbers three times and I lost my pot because the minimum bet was like a quarter of my starting amount. No worries, Dad's earnings covered my lose and paid for our trip to Macau. So stupid.I walked around the street markets with my folks and got to eat in lots of little shops along the way. Everything is good in Hong Kong. I didn't have one bad meal. My favorite snack was the steamed milk shop. They steamed milk with some other ingredients and made the silkiest, lightest, most refreshing dessert ever. It's like super soft tofu only it's as light as milk! The flavor was delicate too, we had ginger and regular milk and I had a mango milkshake. Oh so sosososo good. We met up with Doug's parents a few times for dinner and lunch. That was also tasty. I tried "Dai Jahp Haai" the hairy crab from shanghai. Such intense flavor! So fatty, I couldn't finish the second half of the body cause it was so rich. I also went to the Peninsula Hotel with Frances's mom and went shopping around the city with her. She's such a riot. Always makes me laugh. I met Mango and Man Hong also, Frances's dog and youngest brother. Fun guy, silly dog. Saw Ken and Shai for an hour or two. They looked so happy together. I wish I took a picture. |
